Heritage
The ales we create today are made much as they were in 1794. Our brewhouse still works by traditional methods, a mash tun, an open top copper and open top fermentation, the way our Head Brewer believes ale should be made. More than two centuries on, that same patience and care goes into every cask, from Copper Ale and IPA to Dorset Gold and the award-winning Tally Ho! and Palmers 200.
The Palmers story
Brewing has gone on without a break on the banks of the River Brit since 1794, when the Gundry family built the Old Brewery in Bridport. Generations on, it is still a family concern, run today by the great grandson and great great granddaughter of the two Palmers brothers who gave the brewery its name. More than two centuries of brewing have left their mark on every pint we pour, and the story is still being written.
Palmers Sustainability
Our ales are brewed with water from our own spring and made the traditional way in our historic brewhouse, and we work to keep our footprint as light as the methods that have served us for generations. Through our Community Fund we also invest in the towns and villages around us, supporting local causes that help keep West Dorset one of the best places to live, visit and explore.

Our expert guides will lead you through the production process of our five award-winning ales, from the arrival of raw ingredients on the third floor down through the brewery. While we've made updates over the past two centuries to uphold quality, the traditional process remains largely unchanged.
