Investing in the Future of West Dorset and East Devon
We have partnered with Crowdfunder to relaunch the Palmers Brewery Community Fund and donated £10,000 to mark both this occasion and the Brewery’s 230-year anniversary.
Our Community Fund supports the local community and charitable organisations that help keep West Dorset one of the best places to live, visit and explore. Not-for-profit organisations local to Palmers will be able to apply via Crowdfunder for up to £2,000 to support their projects.
Explaining the relaunch, Emily Palmer Ramus said:
“We hope that by partnering with Crowdfunder, the Community Fund will be more accessible than ever and that everyone locally can have their say in the causes that are important to them. We are donating 10p per pint from seasonal ales and event proceeds. One of which is our 230-year anniversary Beer Festival in September, so the initial £10,000 donation will be topped up with the support of our customers.”
Supporting the Heart of Our Community
We at Palmers have a proud history of donating to important local causes, with over £100,000 donated in the last 20 years to local schools and sports clubs, as well as to cancer, mental health, arts, and environmental charities. Long may this continue, with the assistance of the Crowdfunder platform, making funds readily available for causes important to our community.
Axminster Gymnastics – Leaping into the Future
Total: £22,924
Axminster Gymnastics raised a huge amount to facilitate a new floor, mats and bars for their 550+ members to utilise. They received our maximum amount of match funding for this project - £2,000.
Bridport Gig Rowing Club Junior Squad
Total: £2,188
The club aimed to fundraise for a new set of oars for their junior team. Consisting of some 100 members, the squad had already managed to raise some funds externally and then raised the rest through Crowdfunder, of which Palmers match funded £1,045.
Marshwood School PFA
Total: £4,680
The children and PFA of the school were determined to raise the money for a new playground gym. As a small school with just 43 pupils, everyone played a part in the fundraising efforts, supported by the generosity of their families and wider community. Together they successfully reached their fundraising target, with Palmers providing the full match funding available of £2,000.
Symondsbury Cricket Club Future
Total: £4,520
Symene Club needed new covers to protect the ground, and we were very pleased to be able to help! The club fundraised and reached their target, with Palmers providing £2,000 of match funding.
Bridport Barracudas
Total: £3,818
Our local swimming club needed new starting blocks, to allow their members to practice and gain experience with the blocks during training. They managed to hit their target, of which Palmers match funded £1,500.
Save Queenie the Dog
Total: £6,160
Queenie has overlooked the weir at the Brewery for years, but she was sadly becoming corroded and unsafe. Special thanks go to Greta Berlin, Cleo Evans and Ros Huxley, who made the Crowdfunder possible and allowed the brewery to match fund the project. Supported by the community and Bridport Town Council, the funds were raised, match funded with £450 from Palmers.
Keep Bridport Youth and Community Centre Open
Total: £28,951
The centre is a hub for 600+ visits a week and is a hub for many different activities and groups, encouraging young people to get involved. A very important community cause that we were so pleased to support with the full amount of available match funding, £2,000.
Funding for a Community Indoor Football Facility
Total: £33,621
The aim of this Crowdfunder was to provide a safe, dry place for local football teams, children and community members to hone their football skills. They raised a huge amount for the successful project and received the full amount of £2,000 match funding.
Colfox Students Appeal for New Outside Seating
Total: £5,386
The students were allowed to pitch their ‘school improvement’ ideas and wanted to raise money for benches to enjoy their outside space together. They managed to raise the full amount, with the help of £2,000 from Palmers.
Martinstown Cricket Club Facilities Enhancement
Total: £2,090
The club is becoming ever more popular and the committee wanted to try to improve the facilities for their members and visitors. Their Crowdfunder was successful and allowed them to lay a new patio outside the clubhouse, helped with £750 match funding from Palmers.
Christmas Joy Campaign 2024
Total: £8,178
Bridport Round Table have successfully helped the local community through Covid and Cost of Living Crisis. They wanted to continue this work by ensuring every family received a hamper that has all the necessary ingredients to enjoy a traditional family Christmas. The target was hit and 170 hampers distributed, with £2,000 Palmers match funding.
Christmas Joy Campaign 2025
Total: £8,065
As the previous year, Bridport Round Table needed help to achieve their goal of delivering over 170 hampers to local families at Christmas. Their target was met and hampers delivered successfully, with the help of £2,000 match funding from Palmers.
COMMUNITY FUND INFORMATION
To apply, organisations based in West Dorset or East Devon should create a Crowdfunder page and, if the project meets the eligibility criteria, they will be automatically notified of the Palmers Brewery Community Fund. If the application is approved, Palmers will match up to 50% of their initial target amount, up to £2,000. Funds will only be released if the project achieves its fundraising target. Projects will need clear public support to be successful. Once the Fund has been allocated, no further applications will be accepted.
